INVESTING IN OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY HELPS AIRPORTS INCREASE GATE CAPACITY WITHOUT EXPANDING INFRASTRUCTURE

Conventional VDGS indicates the position of an aircraft at a gate using basic and passive azimuth and stop guidance. VDGS can measure the distance to the aircraft, but it cannot measure laterally, and therefore, cannot know the aircraft's exact position or verify the aircraft type. It is dependent on receiving the expected aircraft type from another source, which creates the possibility for incorrect information to be presented and incorrect guidance to be provided. Without a lateral measurement, VDGS cannot support multiple centerline gates for both narrow and wide body operations.
