Aircraft rigging is a diverse subject that starts during construction of the aircraft. In its most basic form, rigging makes an aircraft safe to fly and allows one to extract the most from the aircraft by setting trim, reducing drag or changing performance in some flight regime. Airplane rigging can be complicated because of the interaction of the various components. Changing one aspect of aircraft geometry will result in aerodynamic changes not directly related to the initial change. By understanding the relationships involved, rigging can be accomplished in less time and with less flight testing.
