Geared up for MRO

The low-cost airlines have shown significant fleet growth during the downturn and are continuing to place orders and take deliveries while many of the legacy carriers - especially in the US - have cut back. The majority of the low-cost carriers have selected either the A320 family powered by CFM56 or V2500 engines, or the 737 with CFM56-3 engines, or 737 New Generation aircraft with CFM56-7 engines. Many of the large airlines with inhouse MRO capability have also selected A320 and 737 fleets and developed third-party capability that can be marketed to their low-cost rivals alongside the manufacturers' offerings.
