HMS Ocean's ship's company might have wished for a period out of the spotlight after their vital role in Operation Ellamy in Libya - but any hopes were dashed when the mighty helicopter carrier was directed to play a vital role during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The 22,700-tonne amphibious helicopter carrier, with her 200m (656ft) flight deck, was tasked to provide operational support to the security plan for the Games. She provided accommodation for security support military personnel at equestrian events in nearby Greenwich Park while also aiding Metropolitan Police air and maritime security operations for almost nine weeks.
