Kruger's Anti-Poaching Squirrel

The Kruger National Park (KNP) in South Africa has received an Airbus Helicopters AS350B3e Twin Squirrel to help in the fight against poachers, particularly those targeting rhinos. The €2.65 million (R39 million) aircraft was acquired with part of the R225 million donated to the KNP by the Howard G Buffet Foundation in March 2014. Special equipment enables the helicopter to be flown at night and provide real-time intelligence to ground patrols. The Squirrel joins the SA National Parks' existing fleet, which comprises a Gazelle, a Seabird Seeker, a Denel Dynamics Seeker UAV and two Bantam microlights.
