Initial Australian Poseidon Contract

The US Navy has enacted an Advanced Acquisition contract on behalf of the Australian Government for the procurement of eight Boeing P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft. Under the contract, announced on August 26, the first aircraft will be delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force's (RAAF) No.92 Wing at Edinburgh in South Australia in 2017, with all eight handed over by 2018. The RAAF has options for four more P-8As and a decision on their procurement will be made and revealed in the next Defence White Paper, due for release in mid-2015.
