That an airliner conceived more than 20 years ago should continue to attract orders today is proof enough that ATR got its original design just right. Doubtless the upward spiral in the price of oil accounts for recent renewed interest in turboprop power in general, but this cannot be the sole cause of the Franco-Italian ATR 42/72 pair's success.
