Captain Jon Pentreath, CHF's Commanding Officer is in charge of one Lynx and three Sea King squadrons, with around 35 aircraft available for operations and training. He is responsible for several hundred personnel, a mix of Royal Marine and naval aircrew and naval maintainers. Summarising his force's raison d'etre, Capt Pentreath told AIR International: "The CHF is a naval unit with mixed naval and marine manning which is contributing hugely to operations in Afghanistan as part of Joint Helicopter Command.
