Fanta Cissé looks in pole position for the post of Ministry of Foreign Affairs

While talks on forming a transitional government are intensifying in Conakry, the name of Fanta Cissé is being repeatedly mentioned in the junta's circle to take up the coveted position of head of Guinean diplomacy. Currently secretary general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she's taken up the role of sherpa of the National Committee for Rally for Development (CNRD) since the coup d'état on 5 September. In particular, she has organised several meetings with foreign embassies and has established herself as a key link between foreign diplomats posted in Conakry and Guinea's coup leaders. Having worked at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva and at the World Bank, Cissé has in recent months had a somewhat strained relationship with Alpha Condé's foreign minister, Ibrahima Khalil Kaba.
