Dar es-Salaam rail freight project still waiting for rolling stock

The planned start this year of a block train service between Dar-es-Salaam and Isaka 970 km to the west, where there is a dry port serving neighbouring countries, looks likely to be delayed. Block trains, which allow goods to be transported without hold-ups in marshalling yards, will enable freight to be transported much more quickly from the Tanzanian business capital. Work to enable the trains to pass on the line have been completed thanks to financial support from the World Bank but Tanzania Railways Corporation is still without the rolling stock.
