Morose aviation sector takes toll on distributors Vivo Energy and Total

Oil distributor Vivo Energy, which markets Shell's products at petrol stations, ports and airports in 23 African countries, is feeling the full brunt of the pandemic's effect on global air and sea markets. While the firm led by former Total executive Christian Chammas saw its retail sales of fuel and lubricants at petrol stations increase by 4% between Q1 2020 and Q1 2021, its overall sales of petroleum products fell by 5% over the same period. This is a direct result of the fall in demand for fuel for aircraft and boats. The group's retail activity represents 60% of its business, with B-to-B adding over 30% and the rest made up through the export of lubricants.
