Ten years ago, a team was established in Europe the likes of which had not been seen before. It was composed of specialists in airport infrastructure and aerospace engineers, and it marked the start of serious consideration of the possible effect at international airports of an aircraft that did not yet exist, the Airbus A380, which, if built, would be the world's largest airliner. With a greater weight (about 40% more than a Boeing 747-400), an extra 15-m span and 3-m length, and more passenger capacity than anything else in service, the aircraft was plainly going to require special considerations.
