Cell phones and laptops on planes

While the FCC's May auction of spectrum in the 800-MHz band clears away an impediment to the use of laptops and VoIP phone service on airplanes, do not expect cell phones to find their way into plane cabins on the same timetable. The threat posed to aircraft communications and navigations systems by RF interference from laptop wireless connections is thought to be considerably less than the threat from cell phones.
