With bullet holes and other damage now the norm for low-flying fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters in Iraq and Afghanistan, it has become increasingly important for aircraft maintainers to quickly complete field repairs. A new field-deployable composite repair technique addresses that need by cutting repair time from hours to minutes. The chief advantages of this resin system include the ability to quickly patch the skin without applying heat and, consequently, to repair large areas without exothermic problems.
