Coast Guard leads effort to introduce parts-marking system

The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) has mandated that every aircraft part that is flight-safety-critical, mission-critical, or worth more than $5000 be permanently marked with secure identification by 2010. The mandate applies to aviation assets within the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines Corps, and Coast Guard.
