Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress 44-85734 rolled off the Vega production line at Burbank, California, on May 14, 1945, but, with the war almost over, the bomber was never sent to a combat unit. It was flown to a storage depot in Syracuse, New York, where it arrived on July 5, 1945, before being ferried to Oklahoma three months later.
