Recently I completed the 1~(st) High Reliability Microelectronics for Military Applications workshop. I would like to take a quick moment to thank the workshop sponsors, DfR Solutions, Indium, Lockheed, NexTek and the Chesapeake Chapter of IMAPS. Their support allowed us to have Danny McKnight, the ground commander in Mogadishu in 1993, in the action that became the basis for the movie "Blackhawk Down," as a keynote speaker. As usual, Danny stirred our patriotic blood. It was a well attended workshop and points out one of the strengths of IMAPS. I was asked to bring a focus onto reliability as an element of advanced packaging and this workshop achieved that objective. That is how IMAPS grows as a society, by identifying new areas of advanced packaging that are germane to today's electronics industry. It is also a way to network with new contacts which is a 2~(nd) purpose of the society.
