3M is to sell its advanced ballistic-protection business to Avon Rubber Plc for US$91 million. Avon Rubber of Melksham, UK, sells chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear respiratory protection systems to the military, law enforcement, and fire and rescue services. 3M of St Paul, Minnesota, USA, says that it has decided to sell its ballistic-protection business to focus on other areas in its Advanced Materials Division. The business sells ballistic helmets, body armour and flat armour made from a variety of materials, including composites and ceramics, and related accessories. It has annual global sales of approximately US$85 million.
