Recent Progress on Circularly Polarized Luminescent Materials for Organic Optoelectronic Devices

Due to the characteristics of optical rotation, selective emission of polarizedrnlight, and circular dichroism, circularly polarized luminescent materials havernaroused extensive attentions, and they have exhibited wide optoelectronicrnapplications, such as optical data storage, liquid crystal display, and backlightsrnin 3D displays. Here, the research progress of circularly polarized luminescentrnmaterials for organic optoelectronic devices is summarized. First, therndefinition and measurement of the circularly polarized light, such as opticalrnrotatory dispersion, circular dichroism, and circularly polarized luminescence,rnare systematically introduced. Subsequently, the design strategies for variousrnkinds of circularly polarized luminescent materials, including luminescentrnlanthanide and transition-metal complexes, small organic luminophores,rnconjugated polymers, supramolecules, and liquid crystals are summarized.rnThese materials exhibit circularly polarized luminescence with different magnitudesrnof luminescence dissymmetry values (glum). They are further appliedrnin optoelectronic devices with excellent performance, and the influence factorsrnon the glum values of these materials are presented in detail. Finally, therncurrent opportunities and challenges in this rapidly growing research field arerndiscussed systematically. The circularly polarized luminescent materials withrnlarge glum and high luminescence efficiency are very promising for applicationsrnin organic optoelectronic fields.
