SiC Nanowires Synthesized from Electrospun Nanofiber Templates

We have produced SiC/graphite composite nanofibers with a core/shell structure and SiC nanowires with and without a SiO_2 coating by using electrospun PAN fibers as templates. These nanowires may find technological applications in composites (replacing SiC whiskers or fibers) or electronic devices. We assume that other carbide nanowires may be prepared using a similar process.
