Materials in which the properties of a high internal surface area and high porosity can be combined with chemical functionality have proven to be of the utmost importance in research and also in various technological applications such as heterogeneous catalysis, gas sensing, adsorption and storage, chromatography, and photovoltaics.[1,2] One generally differentiates between different classes of porous materials (microporous, mesoporous, macroporous) according to their pore size.[3]
