Synthesis of Pbl_2 Single-Layered Inorganic Nanotubes Encapsulated Within Carbon Nanotubes

The isolation and growth of single layers of a wide variety of inorganic materials is of interest for both fundamental research and advanced applications.When an individual layer is seamlessly wrapped into a cylinder, the resulting single-layered nanotube combines the characteristics of both two-dimensional (2D) and one-dimensional (ID) materials.Yet, despite their interest, reports on single-walled inorganic nanotubes are scarce because their multiwalled counterparts are in general favoured during growth.Here we report on a versatile approach that allows the formation of high-quality, single-crystalline single-layered inorganic nanotubes. To achieve this, we employed a solvent-free high temperature route using the inner cavities of carbon nanotubes as a hosting templates. Lead iodide single-layered nanotubes, ranging from 3.5 to 7.5 nm in diameter, were prepared by this methodology.
