Scientists have already identified seaweed converted to biofuel as a potential source of energy. Now, a group of French and German scientists have identified a different twist on using seaweed to address the energy crisis: seaweed as a basis for supercapacitors. Supercapacitors can hold lots of charge, like a battery, but don't wear out after a few hundred cycles like the battery in your laptop. As a result, supercapacitors, and specifically carbon-based supercapacitors, are a prime candidate for storing the power in electric cars, for example.
