摘要

Towards a new generation of the smart built environment, the EG-ICE 2014 Cardiff workshop brought together international experts working in the inter-disciplinary field of computing in engineering. This field traditionally focuses mainly on analysis tasks, e.g. to determinate a structure's physical behaviour. However, with the increasing complexity of engineering problems in practice, the demands for smart data handling, as well as, information and knowledge processing for building and infrastructure design and construction and management, has been exponentially growing. Today's computing in engineering is increasingly implementing intelligent methods of modelling, simulation, reasoning and optimization to better support the design, fabrication, and construction of the new generation of our smart built environment.
