Port constraints have prompted Irish ro-ro operator Seatruck Ferries to seek "extreme operational flexibility" with the latest vessels it has ordered as part of its rapid expansion plans. The company has ordered four 142-metre vessels from German shipbuilder, Flensburger Schiffbau Gesellschaft, each of which will draw 5.2 metres. The ships will be fitted with two 8,000kW main engines, two l,000kW bow thrusters and high-lift rudders, enabling them to manoeuvre in confined areas. Due for delivery between November 2011 and June 2012, the vessels will incorporate a fourth deck, giving the vessels capacity for 151 trailers compared with 120 on a long-awaited series of Spanish-built vessels ordered by Seatruck.
