摘要

In the last issue, we asked a question on many librarians' minds, and we were pleased with the depth and variety of responses. As suggested by JERL editorial board member Oliver Pesch, we asked, "Many libraries have gone to federated searching to win users back from Google. Is it working?" Respondents approached the question from a variety of vantage points and, not surprisingly, espoused wildly disparate opinions on the theoretical and functional success of current federated search tools, techniques, and products. Some respondents mentioned specific local projects, while others approached the topic from a theoretical perspective. Let's see what the six practitioners and one library science professor had to say on the topic of how and why libraries are providing federated search capabilities in a Googlized world.
