Guest Editors' Introduction to Special Issue on the First INFORMS Simulation Society Research Workshop

The INFORMS Simulation Society (I-Sim) held its first-ever Research Workshop at INSEAD's campus in Fontainebleau, France, during the period July 5-7, 2007. The I-Sim Research Workshop is a new forum for researchers to exchange ideas and results and to discuss new developments in the simulation of stochastic processes and discrete-event systems. The goal is to bring together leading researchers working in a variety of theoretical, empirical, application, and implementation domains in order to reflect on a common theme. The first I-Sim Research Workshop focused on the following question: How can simulation most effectively support better decisions?
