We present a technique to synthesize time-varying weathered textures.rnGiven a single texture image as input, the degree of weatheringrnat different regions of the input texture is estimated by prevalencernanalysis of texture patches. This information then allows torngracefully increase or decrease the popularity of weathered patches,rnsimulating the evolution of texture appearance both backward andrnforward in time. Our method can be applied to a wide variety ofrndifferent textures since the reaction of the material to weatheringrneffects is physically-oblivious and learned from the input texturernitself. The weathering process evolves new structures as well asrncolor variations, providing rich and natural results. In contrast withrnexisting methods, our method does not require any user interactionrnor assistance. We demonstrate our technique on various textures,rnand their application to time-varying weathering of 3D scenes. Wernalso extend our method to handle multi-layered textures, weatheringrntransfer, and interactive weathering painting.
