The authors report on punching tests on five thick concrete slabs for offshore and nuclear containments and promise a rational model that correctly describes and accounts for size effect. The five specimens allow for a (linear) quantification of the following influencing factors: 1.Concrete strength: SpecimensNSSl andHSS4-400mm (16 in.) slab thickness, p = 1.58%; and 2. Flexural reinforcement ratio: Specimens HSS1 and HSS3-350 mm (14 in.) slab thickness; nevertheless, different bar sizes and bar spacings.
