摘要

A new method o f reinforcing concrete columns with steel equalangle (SEA) sections has been investigated. A total o f 12 squarehigh-strength concrete (HSC) column specimens (with 210 mm[8.26 in.] sides and 600 mm [23.62 in.] height) reinforced longitudinallywith either steel bars or SEA sections were cast andtested. The lateral tie spacing o f specimens varied from 50 to400 mm (1.96 to 15.74 in.). The influences o f the type o f longitudinalreinforcement and the spacing o f lateral ties on the behavior o fHSC specimens under axial compression were investigated. Experimentalresults showed that the use o f the SEA sections as longitudinalreinforcements in HSC column specimens led to significantimprovements in the axial load-carrying capacity and ductilitycompared to the corresponding HSC column specimens reinforcedlongitudinally with steel bars.
