The Benefits of Continuous Emissions Monitoring

Gas emissions monitoring requirements vary in detail from country to country and from industry to industry, and are fully documented. In Britain, Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Pollution (HMIP - now the National Centre for Regulatory Monitoring, part of the Environment Agency) published through HMSO guidance notes for each industrial sector in booklet form. That for the chemical industry in particular is booklet IPR4 (price £4.15). There are also process guidance notes for each significant type of process -that for combustion processes using large boilers and furnaces is, for example, IPR1/1 (price £5). Using these guidance notes or their equivalents in other countries it is possible to determine exactly what emissions monitoring is required for any given industry and process.
