Find Inspiration Where You Can

Some people derive enough motivation from just earning a living to keep them trudging off to work every day. I need more than that-l've always been motivated more by inspiration than by the money. Oh, sure, I like getting paid, but as I'm working on projects day to day, I look for inspiration to keep me going. I try to do a good job by focusing on some person, or group of people, I'm trying to please. It may be childish, but it works for me. I'm going to go out on a limb here, and make a recommendation for you, as well. You may find it beneficial to your career to attempt to be among the least experienced developers on your team. That is, you'll almost always benefit by not being the most experienced developer-once that happens, you no longer have a mentor; there's no one to learn from. Yes, it's lots of fun being the best, but if you are, you're probably stagnating. I've found the only way to really grow as a developer is to work with people who are either a heck of a lot more experienced than I am or just a heck of a lot smarter. Either way, there's a lot to be gained. It hurts a little at first, being back on the bottom rung, but there's so far to rise!
