Get Better Requirements Before Development

Whether you create Web pages or Windows forms, designing an aesthetically pleasing, user-friendly, and functional user interface in a short and cost-conscious time and budget cycle, isn't easy. Failing to perform in any of these areas can make or break a successful development cycle and/or customer relationship. A good design phase helps to keep all these factors in check. In this article, I explore the art of customer interaction to gather application specifications. I've written this article from the perspective of an independent consultant, but all the concepts equally apply to in-house development. Whether you're working with a customer or users in your organization, it can be challenging to extract information from users you'd need to build a user interface.
