Two identical rectangular blocks (12m by 9.5m) are placed at 90 degrees to each other so that they overlap. The 2nd floor rectangle is covered with a roof made of two plates intersecting with each other at 90 degrees. The topmost line of the 2nd floor living room ceiling runs at 90 degrees to the central corridor on the 1st floor. This scheme was selected to conform with the conditions imposed by the nature of the site. Although the concrete enclosure was designed as a three dimensional structure including the bent-plate roof, posts were required to support the upper level, which is cantilevered at the end of the house where the slope of the land drops away, For this support and to prevent sagging in the center of the two large roof plates, 45 degree-angle braces were introduced.
