摘要

Rotator cuff tears, specifically of the supraspinatus and infraspinatus, were first described by Alexander Monro in 1788 [12], followed by the first series of rotator cuff tears in a cadaver study by John Gregory Smith almost 50 years later [17]. Rotator cuff repair was first described by Perthes [15] and later Codman [3]. Subsequently, advances in techniques were developed, with transosseous repair emerging as the most widely performed technique [5]. Controversies persist about fixation methods, repair configurations, and open versus arthroscopic techniques; however, successful healing continues to elude even the most skilled orthopaedic surgeon.
