Microhistological analysis of feces has several advantages over alternative techniques when ascertaining the botanical composition of herbivore diets: it does not require animal sacrifice or surgical alteration; the number of samples collected is limited only by analytical cost and time; it requires little interaction between researcher and animal; and it does not interfere with normal animal grazing habits and movements ( ; ; ).
