XI. Quality Assurance and Medical Education: B. Medical Education: The Use of Computer-Generated Financial Statements to Explain Hospital Costs

This paper presents the results of two years of effort in trying to provide a graphic presentation of hospital financial statements as the basis for helping medical students understand the effect of their behavior on hospital costs. Medical students at best have little interest in accounting and the normal tabular statements are not easily readable or explainable. This paper describes how the tabular financial statements have been translated into computer graphic formats that the medical students can more rapidly understand and appreciate.
