In April 1949,the ruling Kuomintang regime was on the brink of collapse.The People’s Liberation Army was marching on Nanjing and Shanghai.Jean Frederic Joliot-Curie,the famous scientist,was preparing for the World Congress of Peace to be held in Paris,France,with representatives from 72 countries across the globe ready to participate in the event.Pablo Picasso,the well-known painter,made a lithograph entitled Peace Dove,which was adopted by the meeting as its logo.
