When TLM alloy is subjected to the NaOH solution treatment, sodium titanate (niobate) gel layer will be formed on the surface, and the gel layer will be converted into titania ( niobium oxide) gel layer after the dilute HC1 treatment. The TLM sample with 2.5 mol/L NaOH(12 h)-HCl treatment has nano porous gel layer, and becomes superhydrophilic (contact angle <5°) after UV irradiation treatment for 15 min. The blood compatibility tests show that the superhydrophilic TLM sample has less platelet adhesion on the surface than the ground TLM sample. Thus, the superhydrophilic surface has improved blood compatibility of the TLM alloy.
