A new algorithm for vehicle license plate detection based on edge detection and mathematical morphology is proposed. Firstly, utilizing edge detection and morphological analysis to obtain candidate regions of license plate, then analyzing candidate regions by connected component, finally positioning plate region Experimental results show that'the method can reduce the influence of background noise on distinguishing the target region of image and time-consuming of license plate location to realize the license plate location.%针对车牌自动识别系统的车牌定位方法进行了研究分析,提出一种结合边缘检测和数学形态学的车牌定位算法.利用边缘检测和形态学分析得到车牌候选区域,对候选区域进行连通域分析,实现了对车牌区域的定位.实验结果表明,谊方法降低了各种背景噪声对图像中目标区域判别的影响,降低了车牌定位时间,有效地实现了车牌定位.
