A design approach of data transmission system for the expendable seawater temperature measurer is proposed. According to the characteristics of long transmission distance and great waveform distortion, the frequency modulation method was adopted to overcome unfavorable conditions about transmission channel and marine environment. The communication between underwater probe and control unit on water surface was realized by modem chip MSM7512B used in FSK modulation and demodulation of signal. MSP430 single chip microcontroller with low power was chosen as the operational processor.
