Ultralong carbon nanotube arrays, usually referring to those with array heights over 1mm, show great potentials in the development of new structural and electronic composites. Recently, tremendous attention has been poured in the synthesis of ultralong CNT arrays and their growth mechanism. It has shown that the catalytic activity and lifetime of catalysts play important roles in the growth of ultralong carbon nanotube arrays. Concerning on the synthesis of ultralong carbon nanotube arrays, the effects of catalyst structure, growth condition, carbon feedstock and some other factors on the height of carbon nanotube arrays are summarized.
