His historical studies include both Chinese modern literature and Chinese classical literature. His new viewpoint of the Chinese narrative theory system and the multi-dimensional characteristic of Chinese classical poetics evidently extracts the cultural patency and originality out of Chinese literary theory. Using the material of academic history, he systematically expounds the overall features of modern methods in China. His proposition of "redrawing the map of Chinese literature" not only provides modern China with a keeping-pace-with-the-times literary system, but also creates a deeper, essential literary interpretation space for Chinese culture.
