He wrote the different female characters in his works. This thesis mainly studies the heroine Mary' s the new female image in Long Day's Journey into Night through analyzing the two heroines in the O'Neill's another dramas Desire Under the Elms and Beyond the Horizon. Then the female characters in O' Neill' s dramas are becoming the new female images gradually, and the woman characters created by O' Neill possess the unique female consciousness, and bear the profound realistic meaning.
