本文以米谷贸易这一被形容为从殖民地时代至1975年一直由华人垄断的行业作为一个探井来探讨越南南方华人米商的历史。笔者将殖民地笔者将殖民地时期至1950年的华人米谷贸易分成三个阶段，1900年到1928年三十年间，越南南方土生土长的华人米商崭露头角，大放异彩，并与法国人紧密联系；之前的越南华人米商主力则是从新加坡和香港而来，而非本地米商；1930年代后，米谷贸易在三十年代的经济危机中基本完全崩溃，华人主导的米谷贸易也深受影响，全然谈不到兴旺。%Using rice trade as a test pit, a trade described as a Chinese monopoly from the co- lonial period to 1975, I try to chart the trajectory of the Chinese rice merchants from the high colonialist period to 1950. It seems that far from the picture of having a strangle hold on the economy throughout the century, the locM Chinese rice merchants enjoyed but three decades （ 1900 - 1928 ）, and even in this period they shared the rice trade with the French. Before this period the rice mill and export were largely in the hands of the Chinese from Singapore and Hong Kong , and after 1930s the rice trade was a story of unrelieved decline from the 1930s. These changes had serious implications for the leading Chinese capitalists-the rice merchants.
