In American southern woman writer Flannery O'Connor's second novel The Violent Bear It Away ,the conflict of conception and ideas between Rayber and Old Tarwater is described to reveal that Catholics and non-Catholics have faced the similar spiritual dilemma and life stress in the contem-porary society where religious doctrines have lost their credibility and faith has lost its popularity .
