Correlation between serum levels of inflammatory factors and EEG examination in elderly patients with epilepsy

摘要

Objective:To explore the correlation between serum inflammatory cytokines and EEG examination in elderly patients with epilepsy. Methods:A total of 102 patients with epilepsy diagnosed and treated in Neurology Department of our hospital from January 2014 to January 2015were selected, 50 healthy persons were selected as control group, EEG as well as serum TNF-α and IL-2 were checked, and the correlation between serum inflammatory cytokines and EEG examination was analyzed.Results:1h and 24h after epileptic seizure, serum TNF-α and IL-2 levels significantly increased, and compared with control group, there were significant statistical differences (P<0.05); serum TNF-α and IL-2 levels in patients with abnormal EEG findings were significantly higher than those in normal patients (P<0.05), and the more severe the EEG findings, the higher the serum TNF-α and IL-2 levels (P <0.05), showing a significant positive correlation (r=0.669,r=0.536).Conclusions:Immune function is obviously abnormal in elderly patients with epilepsy, serum TNF-α and IL-2 levels significantly increased after the seizure, the more severe the epilepsy by EEG examination, the higher the serum TNF-α and IL-2 levels, there is significant positive correlation, and TNF-α and IL-2 levels can be used as the diagnostic indicators of auxiliary EEG examination.
