The methods of improving the optical properties of VO2 by changing its nanostructure are reviewed. The preparation methods and recent results of VO2 nanoparticles are summed up, including chemical vapor deposition, pulsed laser deposition, sol-gel method, hydrothermal-high temperature solid-phase synthesis and sputtering. The advantage and shortcoming of these preparation methods are also discussed.
