Such chronic hepatic diseases as chronic virus hepatitis and hepatocirrhosis often give rise to the reduced taste function characterized by lack of taste for various foods even the very tasty seafoods. This is often accompanied by digestive functional disturbances such as anorexia, and postprandial stomach distention, etc. The following experiment on the taste function was done in some patients with hepatic diseases: Phenylthiocarbamide was used as the bitter taste agent and diluted into solutions in varying concentrations. The subjects were asked to open their mouths wide enough so as to expose the roots of their tongues,
