All organizations have the goal of being successful. Organizations must rely on people working together to achieve this objective. Leaders play a significant role on determining whether or not an organization will achieve this mission. Although there is no certainty in the success of an organization, a closer reflection on the strength of a leader will secure a more reliable outcome. Leaders must respond appropriately to change and be equipped to handle an environment of chronic stress. The purpose of this paper is to further explore the chronicity of stress that is faced by leaders and to propose a new theory that applies the principles of the Chronic Care Model to individuals in leadership positions. The Chronic Care Model has revolutionized the way patients with chronic health conditions are cared for. The research presented will indicate that these same principles will demonstrate similar positive results when applied to leaders.
